Sunday we paid tribute in a moving service to the long and productive life of June Lee, who was a member of our congregation for over 50 years. More than 200 people gathered to remember and celebrate her. June left an imprint here with which we will live for years to come. Thanks to everyone who helped provide a meaningful memorial service.
We also made a good start on our adventure for the year, focused on Brian McLaren’s book, We Make the Road by Walking: A Year-Long Quest for Spiritual Formation, Reorientation, and Activation. Last Sunday, we re-visited the creation story from Genesis 1, which we had covered not long ago. We considered what it might mean to be “Alive in the Story of Creation” through “Awe and Wonder.” This Sunday we will consider what it means to be “Alive in the Story of Creation” by “Being Human” and our key text will be the second creation story found in Genesis 2. What does it mean, what is it like, for any of us to be fully human and fully alive? We will continue to try to understand some of what it means to be made in the image and likeness of God, to be created a little lower than the angels or perhaps God’s own “self.”
Sunday is also Rally Day when we celebrate the beginning of church programming that follows the general trajectory of the school year. The church choir will return from summer break and we will share in our final cookout of the season.
What a great day to join us at 10:00 AM for worship, some special celebrations and potluck lunch. It’s the ideal day to bring someone along with you.
God grant us more light, more love, more life as we journey together.
