The Associate Pastor Search Committee is pleased to present our candidate for the position of Associate Pastor for Faith Formation and Family Life. Gregory Stevens is a Florida native and a graduate of the University of South Florida. In May, he completed his Master of Divinity degree at Claremont School of Theology in southern California. He has background in pastoral leadership and community organizing, having worked with congregations in Florida and southern California as well as with Young Life. He received outstanding recommendations and references for his creativity, vision, hard work, and ability to relate to people, among other desirable qualities.
In his cover letter Gregory wrote:
In ministry I have balanced budgets, trained volunteers, planned conference events, and facilitated community gatherings, but most importantly I have learned the power of presence – showing up is almost the entire battle. A ministry of presence “puts flesh and blood on, and moves into the neighborhood.” I envision partnering with The First Baptist Church of Palo Alto to create a ministry for families, both within and without the church; a ministry that helps guide parents along the journey, helps students discover belonging and identity, and partners with all to creatively grow into our best selves.”
The candidating weekend is August 22–23. On that weekend we will have an all-church cook-out Saturday evening to meet Gregory informally. On Sunday he will lead the time with children and youth and will preach. Afterward we will hold a business meeting to consider his candidacy. I hope you will all make an extra effort to be present and get to know Gregory as we look to our future as a congregation.
