Pastor Rick Mixon

Note from Pastor Rick (9/28/2016)

This is a busy weekend coming up. We start Saturday morning with a first attempt at Blessing the Animals. We’ve talked about this for a long time. You’re invited to come by with your own pets or bring a family member, friend, colleague, or neighbor to share the occasion. The service will be brief and Pastor Gregory or I will offer a blessing to each critter present – even the human ones!

After worship and education on Sunday, Team FBCPA will participate in the annual Crop Walk. Thanks to Carolyn Shepard for organizing our participation. So far our team consists of Carolyn, Pastor Gregory, Chip Clark, and Dan Cudowrth. There will be another opportunity for you to contribute on Sunday morning to this worthwhile and fun activity, which seeks to alleviate world hunger.

Sunday is also World Communion Sunday and begins our month long emphasis on World Missions. I invite everyone to wear something from another place or culture –whether its your own, one you’ve visited, or one that appeals to you. The emphasis will include a focus on human trafficking, Nicaragua and our sister church, and Baptist work in Cuba.

The texts for Sunday include readings from the book of Lamentations, one that we rarely turn to. One text emphasizes the pain exile and refugee status. The other acknowledges that distress and still turns to hope. Where in the world are those who struggle to hold hope and what is a word of hope we might offer as followers of Jesus, the Hope of the World, to them and to one another? This service is for the whole family and will culminate in Communion.

In Adult Spiritual Formation, Carolyn will be reporting to us on her trip to Nicaragua and her visit with Pastor Ricardo Castillo at our sister church in Corinto.

Come for Sunday for Worship at 10 AM. Stay for Adult Spiritual Formation. Invite someone to come along to share the morning.

Together, let us strive…to know God’s love!
Pastor Rick
