Rev. Rick Mixon

Note from Pastor Rick (12/21/2016)

Thanks to everyone who helped make last Sunday a warm “family” gathering in worship and community. Special thanks to Jan for her gifts of music and all who helped with the brunch. After a week of rehearsals and concerts, it is nice to feel a slightly slower pace this week. However, I did make a run put to EHP today and the pace is definitely not slow there. I was moved to see Nevida Butler in her jeans and sweatshirt marshaling the forces in the food pantry. (Isn’t she supposed to be retired?!?!) There were people everywhere, serving and being served. In our comfort and privilege, let us never forget that there are others of our “family” in need, some in desperate need. I know EHP could use more toys and gifts/gift cards for teens, as well as warm clothes in these cold days, if you have the time and inclination. There is an ongoing collection site right outside my office door. Remember it is precisely to meet the needs of all creation, physical as well as spiritual, that God comes close to share our reality and set things right.
Both Christmas Eve (at 5:00 PM) and Christmas Day (at 10:00 AM) services are for the whole family and will focus on carol singing and familiar scripture, including Luke’s Christmas Story and John’s rhapsody on the light that breaks into the darkness. I’m grateful to be able to sing the later Christmas Eve service at Stanford Memorial Church with members of the Choral Project. Then Sunday afternoon I will head to Boise, Idaho, for 10 days with my family. Pastor Gregory will be on call in my absence and will lead worship on January 1 as we welcome the New Year together. If I don’t see you personally, I pray for you all the blessings of this holy season.

Together, let us strive…to know God’s love!

Pastor Rick
