Our Joys and Concerns for this week include:

  • Birthday joys for Tami Poffenroth (September 21), Beth Johnson (September 25)
  • Kathy Gillam for daughter, Julia, and son-in-law Micah who are settling in to a new routine in Fremont and enjoying work
  • For the family and friends of Marcia Heydon who died on Sunday
  • For Marylea McLean who had surgery for cancer on Tuesday
  • For Andy Kille facing complex treatment for cancer
  • Pastor Rick for the family and friends of David Bartlett after a fall and stroke
  • For all those affected by hurricanes Harvey, Irma, Jose, and Maria, flooding in the Far East, earthquakes in Mexico, fires in the Pacific Northwest, racial unrest in St. Louis, and for the Rohingya people fleeing Myanmar for Bangladesh in great numbers
  • Carolyn Shepard for all those affected by the hurricanes
  • Lois Ville facing major decisions about her vision and hearing; for her brother, Lou, hospitalized in Illinois following knee surgery; traveling mercies as she journeys to Chicago
  • For Lucille Towner recovering from a broken wrist
  • For our church in this time of turmoil with City permitting
  • For Phillip Dah and the good work of the Opportunity Center, LifeMoves, and One Great Hour of Sharing

  • For the beautiful music (violin) of James Poe
  • Dona Smith-Powers with gratitude for prayers and concern as she concluded her radiation treatment last week
  • Lynn Hunwick grateful for children in his neighborhood selling lemonade for hurricane relief
  • Pastor Gregory, Pastor Rick, Nana Spiridon, and Laurie Cudworth for friends and relatives in Florida
  • For Marylea McLean, who will have surgery for cancer next Tuesday
  • For Andy Kille facing complex treatment for cancer
  • James Poe for Elizabeth, his best friend in New York, who is struggling with depression
  • Pastor Rick for the family and friends of David Bartlett after a fall and stroke; for all those affected by flooding in the Far East, the earthquake in Mexico, the fires in the Pacific Northwest, and the threat of ethnic cleansing in Bangladesh
  • Carolyn Shepard for all those affected by the hurricanes; remembering that Sunday was World Suicide Prevention Day

  • For the beautiful music of Anthia Lee Halfmann who filled in for Jan last Sunday
  • For Jan and Peter Gunderson and Clara Ramirez in Oregon for the eclipse
  • Kathy Gillam for her daughter Julia as she begins a new teaching job this week; for all students and staff as a new school year begins
  • Melanie Ramirez for Salvador who is traveling to Mexico to see his family; for students and staff at Gunn HS in a time of difficulty
  • For all those affected by another young person’s suicide last week
  • For our church in this time of turmoil with City permitting
  • For the family and friends of David Bartlett as he continues to live with the effects of a severe stroke; he has been transferred from Chicago to a rehab facility in New Haven
  • For all those affected by the horror in Charlottesville, Virginia, last weekend
  • For all those affected by the terrorist action Barcelona
  • For all those affected by the rain and mudslides in Sierra Leone and flooding in Bangladesh, India, and Nepal

  • Birthday joys for Clara Ramirez (August 12) and Alex Spiridon (August 13)
  • Carolyn Shepard with gratitude for a good visit with her brother, sister and families.
  • Lynn Hunwick who was pleased to see Charlie Aker in church and noted the work he does to help feed the world
  • Charlie Clark, thankful to God and others that he was able to contact an old friend in Portland with whom he’d lost touch
  • Lois Ville for the family and friends of her long time neighbor, Tony, who died last week.
  • Melanie Ramirez for her mother and two of her grandchildren on a trip to Santa Fe
  • Pastor Gregory for all the trans people who have recently been in the political limelight for their queerness
  • For all of us living under with nuclear threat, especially in this week in which we remember the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki
  • For our church in this time of turmoil with City permitting
  • For the family and friends of David Bartlett as he continues to live with the effects of a severe stroke
  • For Chris Wade (the attorney who has been helping the church) who was injured in a riding accident and is now recovering at home
  • For Susan Gillies, former ABC-USA Interim General Secretary, with health concerns
  • For Tripp Fuller, who was recently terminated from his position in Los Angeles and for his family as they return to North Carolina

  • Lois Ville with thanksgiving for the life and testimony of Thelma Parodi
  • Melanie Ramirez glad to be back in worship after lots of “summer stuff” and a wonderful family trip to Yellowstone
  • Caroline Shepard happy for the presence of her brother Charlie and niece in worship
  • For the family and friends of American Baptist Rev. James Chuck who recently passed away
  • For our church in this time of turmoil with City permitting
  • For the family and friends of David Bartlett as he continues to live with the effects of a severe stroke
  • For Chris Wade (the attorney who has been helping the church) who was injured in a riding accident last weekend
  • For Susan Gillies, former ABC-USA Interim General Secretary, with health concerns
  • For Tripp Fuller, who was recently terminated from his position in Los Angeles and for their baby son, Haven, who has been hospitalized with health concerns  (Update: Haven is home and doing better)

Our Joys and Concerns from Sunday July 16th were:

Lois Ville with gratitude that her brother-i-law, Lee;’s heart surgery went well and thanks for our prayers as well as the good work of doctors, caregivers and family who supported and cared for him

Katharina Borchert for her friend, Pam, who is a missionary in Burma and has started a school that is in need of government permission to build on the land they purchased for the school.
