Mission Offering for July: One Great Hour of Sharing (7/27)

One Great Hour of SharingThrough One Great Hour Of Sharing we embrace refugees around the world as our own. We say “where you go, we will go.” This offering places us side-by-side with those in need. The One Great Hour of Sharing offering reaches across the globe. Sometimes it provides solidarity to those who have experienced loss due to disasters in our own community and congregation, and at other times it says tangibly “you are not forgotten” to our sisters and brothers on the other side of the world. Through our gifts, we can help ensure that all of God’s children have what they need. Together, we accompany the refugee and stand in solidarity with the distressed, bringing about the world as God intended. Please give prayerful thought to your gift this year.

To date we have received $803 toward our goal of $800.

OGHS Relief for Syrian Refugees

Syrian refugeesVALLEY FORGE, PA (9/17/15)—The Board of Directors of IM officially expressed its long-term commitment to supporting Syrian refugee and IDP communities in the recent International Ministries Resolution on Syrian Refugees. The resolution paves the way for a focused mobilization of human and financial resources to pray for, meet the needs of and prepare to receive Syrian refugees.

As a first step in this next stage of response, IM has sent an additional $10,000 in OGHS emergency funding to provide immediate relief for Syrian refugees and IDPs. Of this grant, IM partners Hungarian Baptist Aid and the Union of Baptist Churches of Serbia have each been given $5,000. The aid will be used to supply food and water, clothing, shelter and medical clinics. Future OGHS grants will support the efforts of all IM partners who are providing relief to Syrian IDPs and refugees.

American Baptists Respond to Water Crisis in Flint

VALLEY FORGE, PA (ABNS 2/19/16)—In response to the water crisis in Flint, Mich., American Baptist Home Mission Societies’ Disaster Relief Office has distributed a $2,500 Emergency Grant from American Baptist Churches USA One Great Hour of Sharing funds to American Baptist Churches of Michigan. The region will forward funds to Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church, Flint, which is coordinating American Baptist relief efforts in the city.

Both the state and federal governments have declared a state of emergency in the city because its drinking water is contaminated with lead, rendering it unsuitable for drinking, cooking and bathing.

“While there are certainly justice and advocacy dimensions to the crisis in Flint, ABHMS is pleased to make this first installment on behalf of American Baptists in responding to the immediate human need for clean water,” says Dr. Jeffrey Haggray, ABHMS executive director. “And we urge our American Baptist family to continue your generosity, which makes such gifts possible.”

July Mission Offering Update: One Great Hour of Sharing

One Great Hour of SharingThe special offering for July is our annual offering for One Great Hour of Sharing.

Our theme for the 2015 One Great Hour of Sharing is “Give and Change the World”.

This is our annual opportunity to help others, both in the world and at home, who are in desperate need due to natural or political disasters. We can have an impact to “change to life of someone in distress in {our} own congregation or community, and at other times… in the lives of those we may never meet but who are in desperate need of our compassion and generosity. For almost seven decades we have been making a difference together – and glorifying God – through this offering which funds relief, development, and refugee ministry all over the world and in the U.S.

Our gifts to One Great Hour Sharing make a difference in the world. To date we have received $865 toward our goal of $800.
